A meditation trainer is someone who has the best knowledge of meditation practices and uses this to help others. They find ways to use meditation techniques to engage with spiritual, personal, and emotional development. To become a meditation trainer, you will be required to undergo various courses and training programs to become certified.
Considerations Before Starting
When considering becoming a trainer, make sure you are doing it for the right reasons. The question becomes why are you trying to become a meditation trainer? If the answer is to be world-famous or rich or a renowned guru, you are in this for the wrong reasons. However, if your intention is one of the ones below, you are more likely to be successful in this practice.
Regardless of how you got here, your intentions should be pure and good. With this mindset, you will be ready to help others and put your best foot forward when starting your practice.
How Much Does a Meditation Trainer Earn?
This can vary. According to Indeed.com, Meditation Trainers earn $17.38/hr nationally. However, this number can depend on where you live. Zip-recruiter shows a wide range for yearly salary: between $16,000 and $252,000 with an average salary of $68,412. Your success will be based on the work you do and the training you acquire along the way. Paysa cites the average income as $56,000-$61,000 per year. Like in any position, the salary can be more or less depending on a variety of factors. A good estimate to consider is between $55,000-$65,000 per year with the possibility of earning more or less.
How to Become Certified
Technically, there is no certification requirement. However, being certified proves to clients that you are serious about the practice. You can become certified in different areas, and this can be particularly attractive for potential clients. Certification programs also usually offer on-going training and support that can be helpful in your own personal development. So, even though you may not need to be certified, there are many benefits.
A certification will show that you know what you are doing and that someone else can vouch for you. It also grounds your practice in a type of tradition, making your clients feel more comfortable and confident. Having a reputable certification offers you the peace of mind that you are a skilled teacher. The connection from your peers that comes with being certified provides a support system in case you feel stuck. With all of this in mind, becoming a certified meditation trainer is the best way to ensure your success.
Training Programs
Training can be completed either online or offline. This depends on the lifestyle you lead and which makes more sense for you.
Offline Training
Being in-person with an instructor has obvious advantages. You are able to ask more questions and receive 1-on-1 support from your trainer in ways that you cannot online. Since becoming a meditation trainer takes practice and being out of your comfort zone, these in-person training programs force you to take bold steps in front of others. This helps you develop skills more quickly and feel more confident. However, becoming a meditation trainer does not happen overnight and there is a lot of information one needs to know and practice before they can lead a class. In-person training does not always offer enough time or instruction to produce results. Also, there is less support after the end of the class. New meditation trainers need months of support to ask questions and receive feedback, and often these in-person courses do not provide that.
Online Training
The online method is obviously much more flexible. It can also be much more informative for the student. The format is sometimes more practical than in-person training and can cover more ground. Online training provides people with accessibility and the option to learn at your own pace. The problem becomes the quality. An online program would have to be incredibly thorough and organized to properly transition from novice to expert. Similarly to in-person training, online courses do not provide the level of needed continued support once the process is completed.
